Zimbabwe

Landlocked southern Africa

Zimbabwe is a landlocked country in southern Africa, formerly known as Rhodesia.

The name comes from Great Zimbabwe, ruins of an ancient city whose stone structures give the country its name.

Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980 after years of white minority rule.

The country is known for Victoria Falls and has experienced periods of severe economic instability, including hyperinflation in the 2000s.
