weld

Heat-fused metal joint

The noun and verb weld is used to talk about the process of bonding metal with heat.

To weld is to do this; a weld is the bond that results, often with a visible seam.

Some surgical procedures also use this verb (weld vertebra).

The verb is used figuratively to talk about a strong bond between abstract things, as in a community welded together by an adverse event.
