soldering
Fusing with alloy
Soldering is joining metal parts by melting a filler metal (solder) into the joint.
Unlike welding, which melts the base metals themselves, soldering uses lower temperatures and a softer alloy that flows between pieces and hardens as it cools.
The technique is essential in electronics for connecting components to circuit boards: I spent the afternoon soldering wires to the motherboard.
A soldering iron is the heated tool used for the work.
