A welding helmet is protective headgear worn during welding, featuring a dark visor that shields the eyes from the intense light and ultraviolet radiation produced by the welding arc.
The visor may be fixed or flip-up, and modern versions often have auto-darkening lenses that adjust automatically when the arc strikes: He flipped down his welding helmet and sparked the torch.
