screw
Nail with threads
A screw is a metal fastener with a spiral thread, driven by rotating: I need a screw to hang this shelf.
As a verb, to screw means to fasten with a screw, or to rotate something into place: Screw the lid on tight.
From the turning motion comes the slang meaning of sex: They screwed in the back seat.
Screw also means to cheat or take advantage of: They really screwed us on that deal.
Screw you is a dismissive insult, milder than fuck you.
To screw up is to make a mistake: I really screwed up this time.
To screw around is to waste time or be unfaithful.
The word is vulgar but considerably milder than fuck.
