pipelines

Underground fuel arteries

A pipeline is a system of pipes for transporting liquids or gases over long distances, such as oil or natural gas from extraction sites to refineries or distribution points.

The term extends to any channel or process through which something flows in stages: a sales pipeline tracks potential customers, a software pipeline moves code from development to deployment.

In computing, pipelines chain commands or processes so the output of one becomes the input of the next.
