brazing

High-temperature metal bonding

Brazing is a metalworking process that joins two pieces of metal using a filler metal melted between them.

Unlike welding, brazing doesn't melt the base metals—the filler flows into the joint by capillary action and bonds when cooled.

The technique works on dissimilar metals and produces strong, leak-proof joints: The plumber brazed the copper fittings together.
