transducer
Signal conversion device
A transducer converts one form of energy into another.
Microphones are transducers that convert sound waves into electrical signals; speakers do the reverse.
The term appears across engineering, biology, and electronics wherever energy changes form: The ultrasound transducer sends and receives sound waves to create an image.
In broader technical use, any device that transforms input into a different kind of output may be called a transducer.
