linear motor

Flat electromagnetic drive

A linear motor is an electric motor that produces motion in a straight line rather than rotation.

Instead of a spinning shaft, the motor's components are laid out flat, with one part (the stator) remaining stationary while the other (the rotor) moves along it.

Linear motors power maglev trains, some roller coasters, and precision manufacturing equipment where smooth, direct linear motion is needed without gears or belts.
