air pressure
Weight of atmosphere
Air pressure is the force exerted by the weight of air in the atmosphere pressing down on surfaces.
At sea level, this pressure is about 14.7 pounds per square inch.
Weather systems are largely driven by differences in air pressure—high pressure typically brings clear skies, low pressure brings storms.
My ears popped from the change in air pressure.
The term also applies to compressed air in tires and tanks: Check your tire's air pressure before a long trip.
