geophone
Ground motion sensor
A geophone is a device that detects ground vibrations and converts them to electrical signals.
Geophones are planted in arrays for seismic surveys—oil exploration, earthquake monitoring, or detecting underground structures.
They pick up vibrations from explosions, thumping trucks, or natural seismic activity and translate them into data about subsurface geology.
