stratosphere

Above the troposphere

The stratosphere is the layer of Earth's atmosphere extending roughly 10 to 50 kilometers above the surface, above the troposphere where weather occurs.

It contains the ozone layer that absorbs ultraviolet radiation.

Figuratively, the stratosphere suggests extreme heights of achievement or intensity: Her career rocketed into the stratosphere, Prices have reached the stratosphere.
