correlation
Variables moving together
Correlation is a relationship or connection between things, especially one where changes in one accompany changes in another: There's a strong correlation between smoking and lung cancer.
In statistics, correlation measures how closely two variables move together.
A positive correlation means both rise or fall together; a negative correlation means one rises as the other falls.
Crucially, correlation doesn't imply causation—two things can move together without one causing the other.
