ferries
Cross-channel passenger boats
Ferries are boats or ships that carry passengers, vehicles, or cargo across a body of water on a regular route.
The word also serves as the verb: to ferry is to transport people or things, especially back and forth: She ferries the kids to school every morning.
The term extends beyond water—anything shuttled repeatedly can be ferried: Helicopters ferried supplies to the remote base.
