Pan Am
Globe-logo airline bygone
Pan Am is the familiar name for Pan American World Airways, the American airline that dominated international air travel from the 1930s through the 1970s.
The airline pioneered transatlantic and transpacific routes, introduced jet travel to commercial aviation, and became a symbol of glamorous air travel.
Pan Am collapsed in 1991, but its blue globe logo remains iconic: Pan Am bags are vintage collectibles now.
