prognostication

Saying what's coming

Prognostication is the act of predicting future events, or the prediction itself.

The word carries a slightly formal or archaic flavor, often appearing in contexts involving prophecy, astrology, or elaborate forecasting: His prognostications about the economy proved wildly optimistic.

Someone who makes prognostications is a prognosticator.
