prophesying

Declaring what's coming

Prophesying is declaring what will happen in the future, especially as if by divine inspiration or supernatural insight.

Religious prophets prophesy; so do fortune-tellers and self-appointed visionaries.

The word extends to confident predictions generally: Economic analysts have been prophesying a recession for months.

To prophesy is distinct from to prophesize, though both forms exist.
