messiah
Awaited divine liberator
A messiah is a savior or liberator, someone expected to rescue a group from dire circumstances.
The term often carries ironic or skeptical undertones when applied to secular figures: Tech investors are always looking for the next messiah.
Someone with a messiah complex believes they're destined to save others. (Capitalized Messiah is the religious title.)
