Coppery lunar eclipse
A blood moon is a total lunar eclipse in which the moon appears reddish or copper-colored, caused by Earth's shadow filtering sunlight.
The term has gained popularity in recent decades, partly through religious associations with apocalyptic prophecy: Some saw the blood moon as a biblical sign.
Also used loosely for any reddish-looking moon.
