positron

Electron's mirror particle

A positron is the antimatter counterpart of an electron—identical in mass but carrying a positive rather than negative charge.

When a positron meets an electron, both are annihilated, releasing energy as gamma rays.

Positrons are used in medical imaging through PET (positron emission tomography) scans.
