nuclear
Relating to atoms
Nuclear relates to the nucleus—the dense core of an atom or a cell.
In physics, nuclear energy comes from splitting or fusing atomic nuclei: nuclear power, nuclear weapons.
In biology, nuclear refers to the cell nucleus: nuclear membrane.
The nuclear family is parents and children only, the core unit without extended relatives.
To go nuclear is to escalate dramatically or resort to extreme measures.
