charge
Accusation or cost
Charge is extremely frequent as both a noun and a verb, and has a wide range of meanings.
The most common meaning is to request or demand payment, but is also frequently used in the legal sense, in which police charge someone with a crime.
A third meaning is to supply or endow with electric potential, as when you charge a battery.
As a noun, charge is often plural when it refers to money or crime: she appeared in court to face charges. There were several charges on my credit card bill that I didn’t recognize.
Charge is also used to identify the electric potential of something: electrons have a negative charge.
