CERN
European physics lab
CERN is the European Organization for Nuclear Research, headquartered near Geneva on the French-Swiss border.
It operates the world's largest particle physics laboratory, including the Large Hadron Collider.
CERN research confirmed the Higgs boson in 2012.
The organization also developed the World Wide Web in 1989 as a tool for sharing scientific data.
