positronic
Fictional robot technology
Positronic describes a fictional type of technology, particularly artificial brains, invented by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.
Positronic brains power the robots in Asimov's stories, where they're bound by the famous Three Laws of Robotics.
The term borrows from positron (the antimatter counterpart of an electron) to sound scientifically plausible.
Outside Asimov's work, positronic appears in *Star Trek* and other science fiction as shorthand for sophisticated android intelligence: Data's positronic brain gave him human-like cognition.
