antiquark
Subatomic antimatter constituent
An antiquark is the antimatter counterpart to a quark—a fundamental particle carrying the opposite electric charge and quantum numbers of its corresponding quark.
Quarks and antiquarks combine to form hadrons: a quark and antiquark pair produces a meson, while three quarks make a proton or neutron.
When a quark meets its antiquark, they annihilate each other, releasing energy.
