rasterization

Vector to pixels

Rasterization is the process of converting vector graphics or geometric data into a grid of pixels for display on a screen.

The term comes from raster, the pattern of horizontal scan lines that compose an image.

In 3D graphics, rasterization transforms shapes defined by vertices and edges into the colored pixels you actually see: The game engine uses rasterization rather than ray tracing for faster performance.
