hitbox
Invisible impact zone
A hitbox is the invisible boundary in video games that determines when objects collide or attacks connect.
It's the area where a character can be hit or where their attacks register damage.
Hitboxes often don't match visual sprites exactly, leading to moments that look like hits but miss, or vice versa: That attack clearly missed but the hitbox caught me.
Fighting game players obsess over hitbox data to optimize play.
