triangulation
Finding position geometrically
Triangulation is determining position by measuring angles from two known points to form a triangle.
Surveyors and navigators use this method to locate distant objects precisely.
The term extends to any process using multiple reference points: GPS uses triangulation from satellites.
In psychology and relationships, triangulation means introducing a third party to manipulate dynamics between two people—a parent playing children against each other, or someone using an ex to provoke jealousy.
