gender
Male, female, other
Gender classifies people, animals, or grammatical forms into categories—most commonly male and female, though contemporary usage increasingly recognizes additional identities beyond this binary.
In grammar, gender is a system for classifying nouns and pronouns that may or may not correspond to biological sex.
The distinction between gender (as social or psychological identity) and sex (as biological category) has become important in modern discourse: Gender is a spectrum, not a binary.
Gender also appears in compounds like gender roles, gender expression, and gender identity.
