someone

A certain individual

Someone means some person.

It is a pronoun that can stand in place of a name or any noun that designates a person.

Someone doesn’t imply a gender; because of this, most people today find it acceptable to use a plural, gender-neutral form after it, even though someone is singular: Someone left their cell phone by the pool.

Someone is more frequent in positive, declarative sentences than anyone, but often they are interchangeable: Does someone have a pencil?/Does anyone have a pencil?

Someone is always interchangeable with somebody.
