parallel port

Legacy printer interface

A parallel port is a computer connector that transmits multiple bits of data simultaneously through separate wires—as opposed to a serial port, which sends bits one at a time.

Once standard on personal computers for connecting printers and scanners, parallel ports have been largely replaced by USB connections: The old printer needs a parallel port adapter.
