expansion card
Computer upgrade board
An expansion card is a circuit board that plugs into a computer's motherboard to add or enhance functionality—graphics cards, sound cards, network adapters, and storage controllers are common types.
The card slides into a dedicated slot and expands the machine's capabilities beyond what's built in: I installed an expansion card to get better graphics.
