porter
Dark ale variety
A porter is someone who carries things for others—luggage at hotels and train stations, supplies in hospitals, or goods in markets.
The word also names a dark brown beer, supposedly favored by London porters in the 18th century.
In buildings, especially British ones, a porter is a doorkeeper or caretaker who manages access and handles deliveries: The porter signed for the package. (Capitalized Porter is a surname.)
