BIOS
Hardware initialization system
BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System, the firmware that initializes hardware when a computer starts up.
Before the operating system loads, the BIOS runs diagnostic tests and prepares the system: I had to enter the BIOS to change the boot order.
Pronounced "bye-oss." Modern systems often use UEFI, but BIOS remains the common term for startup firmware settings. (Lowercase bios is the plural of bio.)
