mitral valve
Left heart doorway
The mitral valve is the heart valve between the left atrium and left ventricle, controlling blood flow between these chambers.
It has two flaps resembling a bishop's mitre.
Mitral valve prolapse occurs when the flaps don't close properly, allowing blood to leak backward.
Also called the bicuspid valve.
