mitre
Angled corner joint
A mitre is a tall ceremonial headdress worn by bishops and abbots, pointed at the top and split into two peaks.
The word extends to the angled joint where two pieces meet at a corner—a mitre joint, cut at 45 degrees so two pieces form a right angle: The carpenter mitred the corners of the picture frame.
The spelling is British; Americans write miter.
