regurgitation

Throwing it up

Regurgitation is the act of bringing swallowed food back up—what birds do to feed their young, or what happens when you vomit.

The word extends to any mechanical repetition without processing: The essay was just regurgitation of the textbook.

In medicine, regurgitation also describes blood flowing backward through a faulty heart valve.
