left ventricle

Main cardiac chamber

The left ventricle is the lower left chamber of the heart, responsible for pumping oxygenated blood into the aorta and out to the body.

It has the thickest muscular walls of the four chambers because it must generate enough pressure to circulate blood through the entire systemic circulation.

The left ventricle showed signs of hypertrophy on the echocardiogram.
