chordae tendineae
Cardiac valve anchors
Chordae tendineae are the thin, cord-like tendons that connect the heart valves to the papillary muscles in the ventricles.
Sometimes called heartstrings, they prevent the valve flaps from inverting when the heart contracts, ensuring blood flows in one direction.
The surgeon repaired the ruptured chordae tendineae.
