aortic valve

Cardiac outflow portal

The aortic valve is the heart valve between the left ventricle and the aorta, opening to allow oxygen-rich blood to flow out to the body and closing to prevent backflow.

It has three leaflets and is one of four valves that keep blood moving in one direction through the heart.

The surgeon replaced his damaged aortic valve.
