cardiac cycle
One complete heartbeat
The cardiac cycle is one complete sequence of heart contraction and relaxation—the heartbeat.
It comprises systole (the pumping phase, when chambers contract to push blood out) and diastole (the filling phase, when chambers relax and refill).
A typical resting cycle lasts about 0.8 seconds: The cardiac cycle repeats roughly 100,000 times per day.
