lights

Decorative string bulbs

Lights are the lungs of an animal, especially a pig, sheep, or cow, used as food or pet food.

The name comes from their light weight compared to other organs.

Lights appear in traditional dishes like haggis and in older cookbooks: Boil the lights until tender.

The word is now uncommon outside butchery and historical recipes.
