dawn

Night's final breath

The time of day when light begins, usually considered to precede sunrise, is dawn.

By extension, the dawn of something is its beginning: It happened during the dawn of civilization.

If something dawns on you, it occurs to you, especially suddenly or surprisingly: It dawned on me that he was ill.

To say that the day dawns is to say that it comes or begins.
