par
Golf's neutral benchmark
Par is the standard or expected level—what's normal or acceptable.
In golf, par is the number of strokes a skilled player should need for a hole or course: two under par, bogey is one over par.
Something on par with another is equal to it.
Below par or not up to par means substandard.
Par for the course is what you'd typically expect, often said resignedly.
