hope
Wishing it works
Hope is the feeling that something wanted or needed will come or happen.
A particular instance of this is also called a hope: The football players encouraged the hopes of all the boys who attended the camp.
As a verb, hope means to express something wished for: She hopes to become a surgeon. I hope you never have to go through a hurricane like I did. Tonight is their last chance and the team is really hoping for a victory.
When you articulate a hope about the past, it is usually because you don’t have adequate information: I hope I didn’t leave something cooking on the stove.
