inlets

Where water intrudes

Inlets is the plural of inlet.

An inlet is a narrow body of water extending into land from a larger body—smaller than a bay, often between islands or cutting into a coastline: The boat anchored in a sheltered inlet.

More generally, an inlet is any passage allowing entry, especially for liquids or air into a system: the air inlet on the engine.
