Mississippi Delta
Southern alluvial plain
The Mississippi Delta is a region of northwestern Mississippi between the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers—a flat, fertile floodplain historically dominated by cotton agriculture and plantation culture.
The Delta is central to American music history, particularly as the birthplace of Delta blues.
Despite its name, the region is not the river's actual delta, which lies at the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana.
