imperial family

Emperor's immediate relatives

The imperial family is the extended family of an emperor or empress, including their spouse, children, siblings, and other close relatives.

The term appears most frequently in reference to Japan's royal household: The imperial family attended the ceremony.

Unlike "royal family," which applies broadly to monarchies, imperial family specifically denotes families ruling empires or, in Japan's case, maintaining that historical title.
