natives

Born there, stayed

Natives are people born in a particular place, or who have lived there long enough to be considered local: The natives know the best restaurants.

In colonial contexts, natives referred to indigenous peoples, often with condescending or racist overtones—a usage now largely avoided.

Native can also describe plants or animals originating in a region: These flowers are natives.
