quart

Fourth of gallon

A quart is a unit of liquid volume equal to two pints or one-fourth of a gallon.

In the U.S., a quart is about 0.95 liters; the British imperial quart is slightly larger at about 1.14 liters.

Pick up a quart of milk on your way home.

The word extends to dry measurement: a quart of strawberries.
